The Saltees are a pair of small islands about 3 miles off the south coast of Co Wexford. Access is only permitted to the Great Saltee, but it is by far the most rewarding, being a sanctuary for a great many sea birds. When I visited, in late May, the Island was at it's most beautiful - blue skies, wild flowers in full bloom, and huge numbers of local residents - Gannets, Guillemots, Razorbills, and of course, everybody's favourite, the Puffins.
